Cytat:
PERTH (AFP) – Lleyton Hewitt is confident a mystery ear ailment that hampered him during his final singles match at the Hopman Cup won't affect his preparation for the Australian Open.

A listless Hewitt was beaten 6-2, 6-2 by James Blake here Thursday, the American's second win over the Australian in 10 matches.

The former world No.1 sought treatment during the match for the ear problem, which he said made it hard to hear Blake hit the ball.

"I woke up with it this morning," he explained.

"I'm not really sure what it is, I just couldn't hear a lot out there.

"It was strange. I felt like I was tripping over my feet out there for a while so it wasn't the best situation to be in.

"I've spoken to the doctor on court afterwards.

"It's probably more just a day or so thing, a couple of days maybe, but hopefully by Sydney it will be sweet," said Hewitt, who will play in the Sydney International before the Open starts in Melbourne on January 19.

Hewitt has suffered illness problems in Perth before, withdrawing from the 2002 tournament with a bout of chicken pox.

However, despite Thursday's ear problem he was able to compete later in the subsequent mixed doubles event.

The loss followed Hewitt's wins over Nicolas Keifer and Dominik Hrbaty in his first two singles matches since having hip surgery after the Beijing Olympics in August.

Despite the setback, the 27-year-old said he was tracking well for the Australian Open, the season's first Grand Slam.

"It's been a good week for me," he said, despite "coming here and not really knowing how the body was going to hold up too much, either.

"The facts are for me that it was perfect preparation going into Sydney next week and Melbourne.

"Today wasn't the best but the two matches against Kiefer and Hrbaty, physically that gave me an idea of where I was at with my body and that I could hold up to match play and bouncing back day after day.

"It gives me a lot of confidence coming off two extremely tough matches, three-set grinds where they nearly went for three hours."

Hewitt said his hip had pulled up well, despite playing six matches, including three mixed doubles encounters, in just four days.

"The hip actually felt really good today, probably the best it's felt," he said.

Hewitt may move overseas
January 27, 2009

LLEYTON Hewitt is strongly considering basing himself overseas, possibly in the US, to ease the massive travel load and accommodate his family life.

Hewitt has long held out against the trend of his fellow Australian players and remained in his homeland but, with the addition of a second child last month, he is now discussing whether to leave Australia for what would be the remainder of his career.

"Basically it's been something we've talked about for a number of years now, which is the possibility of having an overseas base," Hewitt's manager David Drysdale said yesterday.

"From the point of view of all the Australian players in the past — Philippoussis, Cashy, Rafter, the Woodies, everybody has had an overseas base.

"And it makes it easy to travel … the guys that live in Europe or the US, if they get knocked out early in the tournament, they can get off the tour, go home, spend three or four days at home, chill out, recharge the batteries and then go back to the next tournament.

"If you do that and you live in Australia, you've got to take two or three weeks off because of the distance coming back, and the time differences to your body and everything else.

"Lleyton's always done that — he's taken two or three weeks off at a time, or longer, when he comes back for a break."

Drysdale said no decision had been made, but a move was possible this year.

"Who knows, it could be in three weeks time, it could be in three months time," he said.

Drysdale said discussions about a possible move had come to the fore because of the birth of Lleyton and Bec Hewitt's second child, Cruz, and they were weighing up the travel load their family of four now faced.

"Lleyton is such a family man, he wants to have them around," he said.

"And so we started to discuss the possibilities of where, you know, Bec and the kids might be able to stay at home every now and then for a tournament. Lleyton could go and play, if he gets knocked out, he comes back.

"Because, again, I guess it's to knock the rumour on the head about retirement — we're looking at a full schedule for him, and so we're looking at ways to make it as easy as possible.

"So a lot of it was discussed but nothing got decided. Lleyton now heads back overseas next week for the American stint."

Hewitt is keen to play a full schedule this year after managing only 31 matches in an injury-afflicted 2008 that ended with delicate hip surgery, and the rigors of his travel schedule are evident in his planned program for early in 2009.

"As to where, I think he's be looking around the US. It would be somewhere where he's been, and he's been happy with, and he likes the place and feels comfortable living there."

Drysdale said that given that Mia was three and Cruz barely a month old, schooling was not a factor, which arguably made prospective relocation easier.

He said that Hewitt hoped to play at least another two years on the tour.

"It could be from two to four, who knows," he said.

"The guy is so patriotic about his country it's hard to get him to think outside of (living in Australia)."

Lleyton bedzie grał w Memphis pokazowke z Samprasem

Cytat:
Lleyton Hewitt, who will play Sampras in the Feb. 16 Memphis exhibition match, spent two years (2001 and 2002) as the world's top-ranked player and owns two Grand Slam titles, winning the U.S. Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002. Hewitt, 27, said when Sampras won his 14th Slam title, few expected the record to be challenged in such a short time.

And Hewitt said what makes Federer's achievement even more remarkable is the fact that his Slam titles have not included winning a French Open. Federer has won five Wimbledon and five U.S. Open titles and will be attempting to win his fourth Australian Open on Sunday.

''It would have been a lot easier for him if he'd won all four majors,'' Hewitt said. ''But he's going to go down as possibly the greatest ever. You've still got (Nadal) knocking on the door, and who knows how many Slams he going to be out putting in the bag the next few years.''

After a lifetime based in Australia, Lleyton Hewitt may be planning a possible move to the US in hopes of extending his tennis career.

Hewitt, 27, wife Bec Cartwright and the couple’s two children could be set for a shift of continent within months, according to Melbourne’s Herald Sun - all part of a strategy to dispel any notion that the former number one might soon retire after his ranking dropped out of the Top 100. Hewitt crashed out in the Australian Open first round.

“We’re trying to cut down on the amount of travel Lleyton has,” manager David Drysdale Drysdale confirmed to the newspaper. “With Lleyton coming back from a hip injury and committed to a full schedule, it makes sense if he can spend less time travelling.

“He’s such a family-oriented person and that’s why he’s always come back to Australia in between tournaments. If he had an overseas base, he could come home for a couple of days between tournaments to spend time with his family.”

Hewitt has always refused to leave Australia, returning first to Adelaide and later to Sydney at every opportunity. He also has skipped the autumn European indoor ATP season for years and has made limited appearances on clay in the spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

If he set up shop in the US, Hewitt would be following the trail blazed by other Australian former players, including Pat Rafter in Bermuda and Mark Philippoussis, Darren Cahill, John Fitzgerald and Todd Woodbridge in the US.

Hewitt could combine house-hunting with his February schedule, which should take him to San Jose, Memphis, Indian Wells and Houston.

FORMER world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt has revealed the extent of an injury that threatened to end his career, saying he had bone shaved off his left hip joint to avoid retirement.

"I had to have some bone taken off my hip joint," Hewitt said. "And I also had a couple of tears and cysts in there as well. So it was a pretty decent clean up in the end."

Hewitt will return to competition in San Jose, California, on February 9 for the first time since his first-round defeat at the Australian Open. "I obviously got a rough draw in Melbourne last week and lost to Fernando Gonzalez in a tight five-setter," he said.

"But the biggest bonus and positive for me is I didn't feel the hip at all during the match. "And I pulled up 100 per cent and I would have been able to play two days later easily if I had gotten through that match.

"So there are a lot of positives to go on coming out of the first month of the season for me, and I'm hoping to build on it especially in San Jose and Memphis in the next couple of weeks. In terms of my comeback now, the hip's been going pretty well."

Hewitt is now expected to tumble out of the top 100 for the first time in a decade. Much of his decline is directly attributable to the hip injury, which flared after a practice session in Las Vegas last year.

"I was in Las Vegas training a couple of days before the tournament started in February last year," he said. "I went for a move in a practice session with Nicolas Kiefer. I felt something straight away.

"I kept trying to play with it. "I got through some tough matches and then the days after those matches it just wouldn't pull up whatsoever, and, yeah, I really wanted to get through Wimbledon though.

"So I went through the French Open and Wimbledon and played there.

"Basically after that I made the round of 16 at Wimbledon against (Roger) Federer and was well under 100 per cent going into that match.

"And after that, my whole leg basically shut down because it was compensating so much." Hewitt has scheduled several more tournaments in 2009 than usual as he attempts to reclaim a top-10 ranking by season's end.

Potwierdzenie wystapienia w składzie druzyny DC ( co bylo oczywiste)

Cytat:
Były mistrz Wimbledonu i US Open Lleyton Hewitt wraca do składu tenisowej reprezentacji Australii po ponad rocznej przerwie spowodowanej operacją i rehabilitacją kontuzjowanego stawu biodrowego.

w lutym i w kwietniu 2008 Lleyton grał w DC

Cytat:
DELRAY BEACH (February 19, 2009) Two-time Grand Slam champion and 1999 Delray Beach ITC winner Lleyton Hewitt has accepted a wild card to play in next week’s 17th annual ATP World Tour event at the Delray Beach Tennis Center and Stadium.

It will be the first trip back to the tournament for the former world No.1 since winning the event’s inaugural title in Delray Beach as a teenager. Both Hewitt and finalist Xavier Malisse were 18 years old and formed the youngest final in tournament history.

“It’s good to go back to Delray Beach; it’s been a long time since I’ve played there,” said Hewitt, who turns 28 on Tuesday. “The surface has changed as well – I won there on green clay courts— and it’s going to be good to go back and play on hard court. I’m looking forward to it.”

Hewitt joins a star-studded field at the Delray Beach ITC that includes 2008 US Open quarterfinalist Mardy Fish, 2006 Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis, 4-time Grand Slam semifinalist Tommy Haas, 2-time French Open quarterfinalist Guillermo Canas and the 7-time doubles Grand Slam champion Bryan Brothers.

“We’ve waited a long time for Lleyton to return and we’re thrilled that it’s worked out with his schedule,” said Delray Beach ITC tournament director Mark Baron. “It’s great to have a former champion back with us.”

After winning the Delray Beach title—his second as a pro—Hewitt went on to move up nearly 100 ranking spots, finishing 1999 at No. 22. By 2001, when he won the US Open and the year-end Master’s Cup, he was No. 1 in the world, a distinction he held through 2002 when he was the Wimbledon champion and won a second Master’s Cup. Hewitt has won 26 ATP titles to go with his pair of Grand Slam wins.

The Adelaide, Australia native had season-ending hip surgery in 2008 and is in his first months back on the ATP World Tour. “For me right now, it’s about getting as many matches as possible,” said Hewitt of his decision to play in Delray Beach. “It’s a strong field but hopefully I can win a few matches.”

Hewitt otrzymał dziką kartę i wystąpi w Miami
autor: Rafał Trzaskawka, 2009-02-23, 12:45, źródło: atpworldtour.com

Dwukrotny zwycięzca Wielkoszlemowych turniejów i były lider światowego rankingu Australijczyk Lleyton Hewitt otrzymał dziką kartę od organizatorów drugiego w sezonie turnieju rangi ATP 1000 w Miami.

To turniej o wspaniałej obsadzie i niesamowitych kibicach.
