Bardzo lubie Andy'go. Budzi moja sympatie, uwielbiam jego ironię, jego miny, gadanie do siebie, lubie to jak zarzuca koszulke na 'garba' i jak potrzasa reka przed serwisem.
Taki chłopak z sąsiedztwa.

Co do gry, no cóż... to dziwny gracz. Ciagle w czołowce, rewelaycjny serwis, a jednak cały czas czegoś brakuje...

Troche slabszy backhand i praca nog.

Roddick brings youth tennis program to San Antonio

Austin resident Andy Roddick, the fifth-ranked men's tennis player in the world, has joined forces with Our Lady of the Lake University and others to start the Andy Roddick Youth Tennis Program in San Antonio.

With about 500 supporters in attendance, Roddick attended ribbon-cutting ceremonies Wednesday afternoon at the OLLU tennis courts.

“I'm really humbled by everybody that turned out today,” Roddick said. “I didn't expect this at all.”

Boosted by financial support from the René Lacoste Foundation, the program came to life with an idea hatched at the 2006 U.S. Open.

It was launched in San Antonio last month, with pupils from nearby Rodriguez Elementary participating.

Currently, about 100 children from ages 5-10 receive lessons in tennis, as well as lessons in nutrition and life skills, on the college campus.

All fifth-grade pupils from Rodriguez participate for one semester as part of their physical education class. Others from kindergarten through fifth grade are also able to participate in after-school sessions.

Pupils at St. Anthony Catholic Elementary and members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio, Calderon Branch, also participate.

Roddick, 25, is currently playing some of his best tennis of the year. He recently helped the U.S. Davis Cup team beat Sweden on the road in the semifinals.

Returning to the United States from a trip to Thailand last week, he practiced with some of the neighborhood kids at OLLU under a hot sun and signed autographs for about a half hour.

Afterward, he engaged in a question and answer session.

Q: Why is this program so important to you?

A: I run a charitable foundation. I started that when I was 18-years-old. I feel like it's our responsibility to give back. I'm able to go around leading this wonderful life. I feel like it would be pretty selfish of me not to give back.

,

Q: What about the role your brother, Lawrence, is playing with the program?

A: Basically, this program is really being motored by my brother. He's lived here (in San Antonio) for close to 15 years. He really has a passion for this. We wanted to team up and have it affect (the) area in a positive way. I'm a very small part of this. He's the one that put this together.

,

Q: You've had some injuries that have held you back this year. How would you assess your own performance?

A: It's doing OK. I've played my best tennis recently. I had a good run at the (U.S.) Open and lost to (Roger) Federer (in the quarterfinals), but I felt like I played pretty well.

,

Q: With the Davis Cup final in Portland in November, and with the United States without a championship since 1995, what would it mean to you personally to beat Russia and win it on American soil?

A: The last time (a final) was in the States was 1992. I was ..... sitting up in the nosebleeds watching (in Forth Worth, as the USA beat Switzerland). To be able to come full circle and bring it back to the U.S., where I feel it belongs, would be a dream come true. It's one of my biggest goals in tennis. So if that happens, it would make it all worthwhile.

Tennis Masters Cup and Andy

As Andy makes his final preparations for the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, which begins on Sunday, AndyRoddick.com looks back at Andy’s history in the prestigious event, one that he has now qualified for five years in a row.

Shanghai is hosting the elite-eight man event for the third straight year and will conclude as host next year before the event moves to London in 2009. The Tennis Masters Cup changes its location ever couple of years, and prior to moving to China, the event had been staged in such locations as Houston, Sydney, Lisbon and Germany.

Andy made his Masters Cup debut in 2003, the year he won the US Open (defeating Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final) and finished year-end World No. 1 in the ATP Rankings. The event was held in Houston, Texas providing Andy with plenty of home support, which carried him all the way to the semifinals where he lost out to eventual champion Roger Federer.

Andy returned to Houston a year later ranked second in the ATP Rankings and once again made it through to the semifinals; however fell to then World No. 3 Lleyton Hewitt.

Due to injury, Andy was unable to take up his place in 2005 when the tournament moved to Shanghai, but he delighted Chinese fans by making the trip at the end of last year. Although Andy didn’t make it past the group stages, he thrilled the crowds with an outstanding performance against Roger Federer in a match during which he held match points before succumbing to the Swiss World No. 1 in three sets.

Despite only being able to play once this Fall since the Davis Cup semifinals in September, Andy will be giving it his all this year Shanghai against a strong field which consists of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Nikolay Davydenko, David Ferrer, Fernando Gonzalez and Richard Gasquet.

The format of the Tennis Masters Cup sees the eight man field split into two groups of four, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal heading the groups. Andy has been placed in the Red Group along with Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko and Fernando Gonzalez, while young guns Rafael Nadal, Richard Gasquet, Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer form the Gold Group. Each player will compete in three Round Robin matches in the group stages, with the top two players from each group advancing to the semifinals, and two ultimately through to the final.

This year, the Shanghai qualifiers have been honored by being cast as Chinese Terracotta Warriors, created by French sculptor Laury Dizengremel, which will be unveiled all together as a group in Shanghai.

The main event gets underway on Sunday, November 11 at the Qi Zhong Stadium in Shanghai.

Stay tuned to AR.com for all the latest from Shanghai.

Go Andy!
