Tak więc z tego składu moim zdaniem do półfinałów wejdzie wielka 3 - Justine & Serena & Venus. A czwartą będzie pewnie któraś z Jankovic/Kuznetsova. Finał obstawiam Henin - V.Williams lub Henin - S.Williams lub V.Williams - S.Williams. Niby tak blisko tego turnieju a jeszcze tak mało naszych rokowań

Serena Williams is the fifth player to qualify for the singles event at the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships, set to take place in Madrid's Recinto Ferial Casa De Campo, November 6-11. By reaching the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Williams has assured herself of a berth in Madrid with 2766 points on the Race to the Sony Ericsson Championships standings, behind Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Ana Ivanovic.

For the 26-year old American the 2007 Sony Ericsson Championships marks the seventh time in her career she has qualified for the prestigious year-ending event. "I'm delighted and surprised to have made it to the Sony Ericsson Championships," said Williams. "When I started the year, I honestly never thought I would be in the position I am in now with a Grand Slam title under my belt and getting closer to playing some great tennis. Chan/Chuang Earn Second Berth in Season-Ender

ST. PETERSBURG, FL, USA – Chan Yung-Jan and Chuang Chia-Jung have become the second team to qualify for this November's Sony Ericsson Championships, the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour announced on Monday, October 22. The season-ending event is set to take place in Madrid's Recinto Ferial Casa De Campo, November 6-11, 2007.

Chan and Chuang are the first ever players from Chinese Taipei to qualify for the Sony Ericsson Championships in singles or doubles. Both players are currently at their career-high doubles rankings, with Chuang at No.7 and Chan at No.8.

"We are very proud to have qualified for the Sony Ericsson Championships and it's an even more special achievement being the first team from our country to do so," Chan said. "We've had a really great year, getting to the finals in Australia and New York, and to be one of the four best teams in Madrid is a dream come true really. I am really looking forward to playing there and to doing our best."

Chan and Chuang are the second team to qualify for this year's Championships, following Cara Black and Liezel Huber, who qualified on August 15. They have won three Tour doubles titles this year, including the Sony Ericsson International in Bangalore, India, the DFS Classic in Birmingham, England, and the Ordina Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. The tandem also holds runner-up trophies this year at the Australian Open, where they lost to Black and Huber, and the US Open, where they lost to Nathalie Dechy and Dinara Safina.

Doubles standouts Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur are presently in second place with 3,628 points, while Chan and Chuang hold the third spot with 3,146 points. However, Raymond and Stosur are unable to compete in this year's Championships due to a viral illness from which Stosur is recuperating.

Przepraszam bardzo, tak sobie właśnie patrzę na ranking The Race i co widzę? Jeśli Hantuchova wygra turniej w Linzu, to będzie miała identyczną liczbę punktów co Sharapova. I co wtedy ?

Masz rację, Maria i Daniela będą miały tyle samo punktów (2431), jednak to Słowaczka będzie wyżej, bo grała więcej turniejów w tym roku. Odpowiedni fragment z oficjalnego regulaminu WTA odnośnie WTA Tour Championships:

"The draw will be comprised of eight ( 8 ) players. If two or more
players have the same number of Ranking points, the player who
has played the most WTA Tour Tournaments during the Tour Year
will be given priority."

Oczywiście jeśli Daniela przegra finał, te rozważania stracą jakikolwiek sens i wtedy jej jedyną szansą na Madryt będzie wycofanie się którejś z zawodniczek z top 8.

Sharapova, Hantuchova Round Out Elite Eight Field

PETERSBURG, FL, USA - Maria Sharapova and Daniela Hantuchova have clinched the final two singles berths at the 2007 Sony Ericsson Championships, set to take place in Madrid's Recinto Ferial Casa de Campo arena, November 6-11. They join an already-impressive line-up made up of Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Ana Ivanovic, Serena Williams and Anna Chakvetadze.

For Sharapova, this is the fourth consecutive year in her career that she has qualified for the Sony Ericsson Championships. She was a champion at the event in 2004 and has been a semifinalist each of the last two years.

"This has been a very frustrating year for me physically but I'm a big competitor and am determined to compete at the Sony Ericsson Championships," Sharapova said.

Following her win at the Generali Ladies Linz in Austria, Hantuchova clinched her spot by outperforming her nearest challenger, Marion Bartoli, currently in the first alternate spot. This is her second appearance in singles at the Sony Ericsson Championships, having previously competed in the year-end event in 2002.

"It is definitely a dream come true for me this year and I know I did everything possible to qualify for the Sony Ericsson Championships in Madrid," Hantuchova said. Venus Williams, originally in seventh place in the Race to the Sony Ericsson Championships points standings, has been forced to withdraw. Following the incident of dizziness that she suffered at the US Open earlier this year, Venus underwent a series of tests, along with follow-up tests after returning from tournaments that she played in Asia in the fall, with her doctors' advice at this time to finalize the testing process and take a break from competitive play.

"This year has been a great one for many reasons," said the Wimbledon winner. "I am pleased that I finished the year in the top eight and in recent weeks I have remained optimistic about participating in the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships. Nevertheless, the accumulation of matches has taken its toll and I have received several medical opinions to delay my return to competitive tennis.
