W&SFG Masters Anticipates Roddick’s Firepower

He gets the crowd supporting him likely he’s playing a Davis Cup match,” Flory commented. The W&SFG Masters anticipates this enthusiasm from Andy and all other Team USA members- at one point or another- as they all will be representing their home turf pride from the top of the draw down to the Wild Cards. Andy(6) and the 2007 finalist James Blake(8) dawn the Top Ten followed by Sam Querrey (38), the 2003 finalist Mardy Fish(41), and Robby Ginepri(65) who speckle the rest of the draw. Three of the four Wild Cards went to up-and-comers John Isner, Donald Young, and Jesse Levine, with Marat Safin snagging the fourth. Defending champion Roger Federer(1), Toronto title-holder Rafael Nadal(2), and Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic(3) hold the top three seeds, and have received byes into the second round as did all of the top eight seeds.

“This is Andy’s ninth year in Cincinnati and his appeal has grown due to the success
he has had and the energy he brings to the court,” Flory added. The 2003 and 2006 champion is eagerly awaiting his second round start at the oldest tournament that still plays in its original location, and hopes to surpass last years Round of 16 loss to David Ferrer 7-6, 6-4. This $2.615 million pot will be an additional incentive to bring Center Court to its feet. Andy will be using his well-know enthusiasm and energy to take it all the way to the winner’s circle for title number three.

Kohlschreiber Up First

After receiving a bye into the second round of the Western and Southern Financial Group Masters event in Cincinnati, Andy will open his campaign against Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Beginning his bid for a third Cincinnati title, Andy’s campaign will start under the lights on Centre Court, as he stars in the night session. His match will start not before 7.00pm EST.

Andy commands a 2-1 head to head over Kohlschreiber. However Andy may be out for some revenge on Tuesday night after Kolhschreiber edged their last match at the Australian Open, at the start of this year, in a marathon fifth set.

Kohlschreiber, currently ranked at 37 has had a good year, winning one title and reaching the final of another event.
